Application to The American Musical and Dramatic Academy is a two-part process to determine the potential of the applicant as a performer and as a candidate for AMDA's concentrated program of study.

    APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
    Applications for admission and complete instructions may be obtained from the AMDA Admission Office. The application reviewing fee is $50 (payable in U.S. funds only) and is non-refundable.
    All applicants must submit official high school transcripts and official academic and financial aid transcripts for all post-secondary institutions attended (if applicable). High school seniors must submit a final official high school transcript verifying date of graduation prior to beginning AMDA classes. Students may not attend AMDA without a high school diploma or the equivalent of a high school diploma.
    Each applicant must submit two AMDA Recommendation Forms, completed by teachers and/or directors, which comment on the applicant's work as an actor, singer, and/or dancer.
    Character references may be substituted if professional recommendations are not available.
    Although standardized tests are not required, students may submit their test scores. Our ACT code is 2671. Our SAT code is 2103.

    AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: 
    All applicants must audition for admission to AMDA. Auditions are held at AMDA on a regular basis. In addition, regional auditions are held annually throughout the country. An appointment is required for all auditions. Audition schedules and information regarding an audition appointment may be obtained from the Admission Office. Applicants from abroad may audition by videotape. The audition requirements for the Integrated and Studio Programs follow.     Integrated Program: The performance of one two-minute monologue (contemporary and/or classical) and one verse and one chorus of a song from the musical theatre or classical repertoire. (Applicants are required to bring sheet music in their key to the audition and should be prepared to meet with the accompanist prior to the audition. AMDA will provide a pianist. Tapes may not be used as accompaniment).

    Studio Program: The performance of two two-minute contrasting monologues (contemporary or classical). The audition performance should not exceed four minutes in total.  Monologues must be from published plays. Original material may not be used. All auditions are reviewed by AMDA faculty and/or staff.

    CALENDAR
    Summer Semester:    July - October
    Fall Semester:       October - February
    Spring Semester:     February - May

     In addition to winter, and spring recesses, the following public holidays are observed:
    Independence Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving.

    ENROLLMENT SEQUENCES
    Students may begin the program in the Summer(July), Fall(October), or Spring(February).

     If enrollment begins in the summer, the enrollment sequence is as follows:
    Summer, Fall, Spring, Summer

     If enrollment begins in the fall, there are two options for the enrollment sequence:
    Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall
    or
    Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring

     If enrollment begins in the spring, the enrollment sequence is as follows:
    Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring

    INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: 
    AMDA is authorized under federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. Candidates for admission from non-English speaking countries maybe asked to complete level 107 at an ESL Language Center to satisfy the English language
    requirement for admission and must include certified English translations of all submitted transcripts and documents. The Certificate of Eligibility (1-20 form) will be issued after the
    student has been accepted, paid the tuition deposit, and made financial arrangements for the tuition balance. All payments from abroad must be made in U.S. dollars. International applicants should be realistic about living costs in the U.S. and not anticipate working in this country to cover expenses.

    HOUSING: 
    AMDA offers housing to all enrolled students. Although students are not required to live in housing facilitated by AMDA, many do choose to take advantage of this service. Students are placed in fully furnished residences located in AMDA's neighborhood on the Upper West Side. While non-AMDA tenants do live in these buildings, only AMDA students are placed together as roommates. Additionally, Resident Assistants, hired by AMDA, live in the buildings and are a resource for students.

    STUDENT HEALTH: 
    The training at AMDA is highly demanding. All accepted applicants must submit a completed health report attesting to his/her ability to meet the rigorous nature of the program before enrollment. The form may be obtained from the Admission Office. AMDA may require an accepted applicant to address specific health concerns or issues before enrolling in classes.

    STUDENT SERVICES: 
    The faculty and staff at AMDA are committed to assisting students. Students may make appointments with staff in the student Services offices or with faculty members at any time.

    VETERANS: 
    AMDA is approved by the New York State Education Department for the training of veterans. For additional information, call or write the Financial Aid Officer.

    FINANCING YOUR EDUCATION
    Through AMDA's financial planning service, an individually tailored financial plan is provided for each student. AMDA is approved by the U.S. Department of Education to offer federally-funded student aid programs to all eligible students. The programs currently offered include: the Federal Family Education Loan Programs (subsidized and unsubsidized student loans, and PLUS Loans for parents of dependent students), Federal Pell Grant Federal SEOG, and Federal Work Study. An application for financial aid is given to all applicants at the audition for admission and upon application to the second year. AMDA does not discriminate against applicants for financial aid on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethic origin, sexual orientation or disability.

    SCHOLARSHIPS 
    Each year select applicants are awarded scholarships to attend AMDA. Awards vary and may range from $1,000 to $10,000 per academic year.

    Auditions for admission to AMDA are held in cities throughout the United States and Canada and have included: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago. Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Kansas city, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York city, Phoenix, Portland, Raleigh, San Francisco. Seattle, Tampa, Toronto, and Vancouver
