STUDENT HANDBOOK
The Student Handbook contains important information for the AMDA student, including the academic calendar and policies and procedures. It is the responsibility of the student to read and understand all the information outlined prior to enrollment. The Student Handbook is available to applicants and students at any time through the Office of Admission or Education.

FACILITIES
AMDA is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the Ansonia, a registered historic landmark. AMDAs studios are located on the first and second floors and include an Off-Off-Broadway theatre, classrooms, rehearsal studios, and voice studios. In addition, classes and rehearsals are held at AMDA's West 60th Street facility which houses three floors of classrooms, rehearsal studios, movement and dance studios, voice studios, and lounges. Classes and rehearsals may also be held in additional buildings in Manhattan. Bus or subway may be necessary to reach class, and a fare is required.

REHEARSAL SPACE
Students are encouraged to take advantage of AMDA's rehearsal space that is available during daytime, evening, and weekend hours. Students may use rehearsal space for ensemble, group, or individual work.

LIBRARY
Students have access to the extensive library facilities in New York City, including Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts, which house some of the finest theatre collections in the world. In addition, AMDA's library contains an expansive collection of scripts, scores, cassettes, and videos that are accessible to the student. Nominal fees and/or deposits may be required for the use of the resources in the AMDA library.

GRADING SYSTEM
All courses in the curriculum are required courses and must be passed each semester. A minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 must be maintained to remain in satisfactory academic standing. In the event that a student receives a grade of Failure or Incomplete, the student may be dismissed from AMDA.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
The intensive demands of AMDA's program require attendance in every class throughout the semester. Attendance is recorded on a daily basis, and excessive absences may result in academic probation or dismissal from the program. Absences may be excused in cases of severe emergency.

AUDITION POLICY
As is traditional in serious theatre conservatories, students may not audition for performance work until the final semester of study. Students are not encouraged to audition before completing AMDA's audition preparation classes which are offered during the fourth semester. At that time, students are prepared with rehearsed audition pieces and are equipped with information regarding professional photographs, resumes, and an understanding of the specific demands that may occur in professional auditions. Special requests for exceptions to this policy may be submitted in writing for consideration. Failure to comply with the audition policy could result in dismissal.

STUDENT PROGRESS
During each term, the student's work is reviewed by Department Chairs and/or faculty to evaluate the student's progress. Each semester, a faculty/student conference is held for most classes which allows the student to review progress and to set goals.

INVITATION TO THE SECOND YEAR
Upon successful completion of the first year, the student returns for the second year by invitation only. During the first year, the student is evaluated in such areas as attendance, attitude, growth, and commitment. These evaluations, in addition to grades, attendance records, and work in demonstrations form the basis of the formal review process prior to a student's invitation to the second year.

CHANGE OF PROGRAM
An enrolled student who wishes to change to a program of study other than the one to which he/she was officially admitted must re-apply and re-audition for admission through the Admission Office.

HEALTH SERVICES
While AMDA does not recommend a specific medical/health service provider, the school does furnish upon request a list of medical referrals which includes doctors, dentists, and specialists in the AMDA neighborhood.
