in the extraordinary world of the performing arts.
Talented
students from across the country and around the world choose AMDA
because of its challenging, performance-based curriculum. They come
to train with a premier faculty comprising accomplished actors,
directors, choreographers, dancers and designers who inspire and
work with students on an individual basis.
The conservatory training is rigorous, the environment is supportive,
and the outcomes are notable. AMDA has a distinguished record of
training students for careers in the performing arts.
To build and sustain a career in the performing arts requires commitment,
inspiration, and talent. Talent is probably directed and focused
by training. AMDA's training is eclectic, based on the principle
that students should learn and master the varied approaches and
techniques that are actually used in the profession.
Developing craft, technique, style, confidence, and professionalism
is key to future growth and achievement as a performer. AMDA is
proud of its many graduates who are performing on Broadway, Off-Broadway,
in television, film, national tours, and regional theater. Careers
begin at AMDA
There
is no better place in the world for you to train as an actor than
in New York City. It is a center for the arts, and thousands of
performers practice their craft in the city. The glamour of Broadway
is legendary, but films, opera, ballet, symphonies, television,
dance, oratorio, and hundreds of diverse plays are being created
and performed in New York every day. Living legends walk by you
on the street. Great museums, libraries, and research centers open
their doors to you. The experience of living and studying in New
York City is unequaled anywhere in the world.
AMDA's
neighborhood, the Upper West Side, is bounded by Central Park to
the east and the Hudson River and Riverside Park to the west and
is filled with boutiques, restaurants, grocery stores, banks, cafes,
and places of worship. And at the very heart of the Upper West Side,
housed within the landmark beaux arts walls of the Ansonia- where
Caruso and Ziegfeld once lived- is AMDA
One of the city's most favored areas, the Upper West Side is the
city's home to the arts. A few blocks from AMDA is Lincoln Center:
the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York
City Opera, the New York City Ballet, and the New York Philharmonic.
Network television is broadcast each day from nearby studios. First-run,
revival, and art-house cinemas are close by, as are Off-Broadway
and Off-Off-Broadway theatres.
Many students live in residences located in Manhattan not far from
AMDA's classrooms and studios. Some of the world's greatest libraries,
parks, and museums are within walking distance, while the transit
system is close by, providing easy access to all of New York City.
The AMDA community
is richly diverse. Students from all 50 states and numerous countries
such as Austria, Brazil, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico,
and Switzerland are selected to train at AMDA each year. They come
to AMDA with a shared passion to excel and a common aspiration to
become the foremost artists of this generation.
At AMDA students have a unique opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary
advantages of training in New York while, at the same time, gaining
the benefits of AMDA's supportive academic and artistic community.
The faculty and staff at AMDA are committed to facilitating a challenging
and fulfilling experience for every student in an environment that
wholly supports students aspiring toward excellence.
AMDA
offers conservatory training. The courses are performance based.
The approach is practical rather than academic. All of the coursework
relates exclusively to the artistic and professional development
of students. The curriculum is designed for students to learn and
master the varied approaches and techniques that are utilized in
the profession. The training is eclectic. The classroom is a laboratory
in which students are encouraged to explore and gain mastery of
varying methods and processes in a focused environment.
AMDA's
faculty members are professionals. They are accomplished actors,
directors, choreographers, dancers, and singers who are committed
to teaching aspiring artists. They have worked on Broadway, in film,
theater, television, national tours and regional theater. The combination
of their performance background, depth of knowledge, and commitment
to teaching creates an outstanding learning environment for students.
