Bachelor of Fine Arts in...
Acting, Musical Theatre, Dance Theatre and Performing Arts.

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy’s Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs foster artistic, academic, professional, and individual success in a unique performance-based environment. Performance Immersion coursework develops craft and technique. Critical Studies courses encourage a global view of the performing arts.

AMDA is the only BFA-granting institution with campuses located in the heart of Hollywood and Manhattan, the two performing arts capitals of the world.  Each location offers abundant artistic and cultural resources: film and television studios, theatres, museums, libraries and performing arts centers.  AMDA is surrounded by a rich history that only a major, cosmopolitan city like Los Angeles and New York can provide.

On Campus Bungalows in Los Angeles

As an incoming student seeking a BFA, you have two enrollment options:

Enroll as a BFA Freshman at the Los Angeles campus and complete the entire program in Los Angeles.  Want a New York experience?  BFA students have the option of completing one semester of study at the New York Campus!

Enroll as a Two-Year Conservatory student (Integrated, Studio or Dance) in either Los Angeles or New York City; complete the Conservatory certificate program and then return to AMDA as a Conservatory graduate to complete the Junior and Senior years of the BFA at the Los Angeles campus.  Conservatory graduates will be awarded 60 credits towards the BFA degree.

Why AMDA’s BFA Programs Are Unique:  AMDA’s BFA degree programs are unique because the entire curriculum has been developed for the actor.  Our BFA programs, which incorporate the strength of our conservatory program with specially focused academic coursework, are designed with the actor’s specific needs, interests and passions in mind.  AMDA provides a uniquely comprehensive experience in which there is a through-line which unites all of the coursework, providing a laboratory for artistic excellence along with practical preparation for the profession.

NYC and LA Campuses: Our campuses consist not only of the traditional buildings, theatres, and classrooms but also the cities of New York and Los Angeles themselves.  There is no better place to train than in these two artistic capitals of the world.  You walk by living legends on the street and have access to unparalleled events and opportunities that nourish the artist: world-class theatre, television and film studios, museums, galleries and libraries.

Faculty:  Performance courses are taught by industry professionals from Broadway, film, television, and stage.  Our accomplished faculty of artists will inspire, challenge and guide you toward artistic excellence.  Critical Studies courses are taught by caring yet demanding educators who understand the actor’s focus and have tailored their courses specifically to address and engage the actor.

Performance Opportunities:  Performance opportunities may include fully-staged productions from the classics to new cutting-edge contemporary plays, standard musical theatre repertoire, cabarets and new works, film projects, dance workshops, improvisation nights, stage combat certifications, special showcases, industry presentations, one-act plays, staged readings, original student-written and student-produced works.

Career Preparation:  AMDA is seriously committed to preparing its students for their future careers.  This advanced coursework provides practical preparation for building a sustained career.  You learn the “business of the business” including how to prepare for a professional audition, work with an agent, evaluate contracts, obtain headshots, prepare a resume, market yourself and discover the vast array of professional opportunities that exist for performers

Campus Options:  Two years of the performance-based coursework may be completed on either campus.  The critical studies coursework is offered exclusively at AMDA’s Los Angeles campus where the BFA degrees are conferred.  Therefore, students may earn their degree by attending both the NY and LA campuses or by completing the entire program at the LA campus.  AMDA graduates of the two-year conservatory program who are entering AMDA’s BFA program will receive full credit for their completed coursework.

AMDA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
