AMDA Offers Unprecedented Degree Programs

As a graduate of AMDA, you are eligible to enroll in AMDA’s Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts programs and earn your BFA degree. All of your credits from AMDA’s two-year program will be applied towards your degree in the AMDA Alumni BFA Program.

The American Musical and Dramatic Academy’s Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs foster artistic, academic, professional, and individual success in a unique performance-based environment. Advanced Performance Immersion coursework develops craft and technique. Critical Studies courses encourage a global view of the performing arts.  
 

BFA Degree Programs each consist of 120 credits:


Completed AMDA Two-Year Coursework: 

 60 credits applied toward the 120 credit requirement for the BFA Degree

 

Completed Studio, Integrated or Dance Conservatory Program

 

Alumni BFA Coursework
Performance Immersion Credits: 30 credits to be completed

 

These courses are comprised of both required and elective courses.

 They contain a mixture of lecture, lab and/or performance elements.

 

Critical Studies (general education credits)
The Critical Studies Credits required are as follows:

English:                                                          9 Credits

Theatre Roots (humanities):                              9 Credits

Creative Exploration (electives):                         9 Credits

Science/Technology:                                        3 Credits

TOTAL:                                                          30 Credits

 

All Critical Studies classes will follow the Lecture/Lab format, and will include an optional advanced component, requiring the student to perform outside work, such as research projects, film viewings and museum/theatre visits. 


AMDA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.

 

Our AMDA Alumni BFA programs provide a total immersion experience for performers.  You can earn your Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at our Los Angeles Campus.  All of the coursework has been specifically designed to have relevance for the performing artist.  The Critical studies courses have each been created to support and enhance the development of the actor.  You work directly with AMDA’s acclaimed faculty of professional performing artists and experienced educators in an environment that inspires creativity, demands active participation and provides the foundation for lifelong learning and achievement.

AMDA Conservatory graduates will be considered for acceptance into the BFA program upon receipt of the BFA Alumni Application and application review fee.  In addition, the application review will include:  receipt and review of college or other post-secondary transcripts (where applicable) and review of the AMDA Conservatory record, including attendance, grades, faculty and staff commentary and recommendations.  Depending on the course of study selected, an audition may be required.  



Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting

The Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting offers performance immersion courses and elective offerings that include advanced training in acting, voice production and speech and improvisation. Critical Studies courses provide academic coursework designed specifically for the performing artist.  Every class is immediately relevant to the life and success of a working actor. Additional courses focus on career preparation, industry networking, and audition techniques. Courses in entrepreneurship will allow students to create performance opportunities, build business plans and explore the role of the producer.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre

The Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre offers distinctive core performance immersion courses and elective offerings that include training in advanced musical theatre, on camera acting, voice production and speech and dance classes and well as final projects in the last semester. Critical studies course work and academics are designed specifically for the performing artist, with an objective of relevance to sustaining a career.  Additional courses focus on career preparation, industry networking, and audition techniques. Courses in entrepreneurship will allow students to create performance opportunities, build business plans and explore the role of the producer.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts


The Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts is designed for the student who wants to explore a variety of performance areas.  Each semester offers the opportunity to build a curriculum that will provide an enhanced experience within given performance areas, while still continuing to build upon a broad-based foundation. Critical Studies courses provide academic coursework designed specifically for the performing artist, where every class is immediately relevant to the life of a working dancer, actor, and/or singer. Advanced courses focus on career preparation, industry networking, and audition techniques. Senior courses in entrepreneurship allow students to create performance opportunities, build business plans and explore the role of the producer. The overall program is designed to ultimately enable the graduate to successfully compete within the ever-changing demands of the Entertainment Industry.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre

The Alumni Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre is designed to immerse the student in a curriculum that provides a strong foundation for a professional career in a multitude of dance performance industries. Training is demanding and rigorous. An emphasis on classical technique is complimented by focused studies in a variety of dance styles and disciplines. Performance

Immersion courses expand training beyond dance to include advanced acting, voice, improvisation, and other essential performance skills. Critical Studies courses provide academic coursework designed specifically for the performing artist, where every class is immediately relevant to the life of a working dancer, actor, and/or singer. Additional courses focus on career preparation, industry networking, and audition techniques. Courses in entrepreneurship allow students to create performance opportunities, build business plans and explore the role of the producer. The overall program is designed to ultimately enable the graduate to successfully compete within the ever-changing demands of the Entertainment Industry.

Foundations of the AMDA Alumni BFA Degree

 

Artistic Foundation

Performance Immersion courses promote artistic excellence.  Taught by working industry professionals in a performance-based environment, courses provide students with unparalleled performance opportunities and the most up-to-date artistic and technical skills and knowledge required to succeed in the world of stage and film.

 

Academic Foundation

Critical Studies courses in English, Science/Technology and Theatre Roots are designed to be immediately relevant to life of the working actor. Courses provide the intellectual foundation for performance work and an overall view of the arts in a historical context.

 

Professional Foundation

Entrepreneurial courses focus specifically on career preparation, industry networking, and audition techniques. In addition, students will be empowered to create arts-related business plans and/or explore their potential as a producer.

Individual Foundation       

Creative Exploration courses, workshops and student-inspired projects encourage individual initiative while allowing students ample opportunity to create and manifest their own film and theatre projects. Students have the opportunity to individualize their course of study and select concentrations in Stage Combat and Action Training, Acting for Film and Television, Contemporary Vocal performance or Dance.



The AMDA Los Angeles Campus:  AMDA LA is a remarkable two acre campus in the heart of Hollywood, one block north of Hollywood and Vine.  On the campus are the AMDA LA Theatre, classrooms, combat and dance studios, voice and study rooms, AMDA's Education and Admissions offices, AMDA Cafe and Restaurant, numerous student residences, parking, indoor and outdoor student lounges and gathering places, outdoor cafe patio, 24 hour security, and parking.  Paramount and Fox Studios are nearby, the Pantages Theatre is around the corner, the Kodak Theatre is down the street, and the famous Walk of Fame begins in front of our campus!  As a student at AMDA LA, you join a special community of artists, educators and students from all over the world.

Faculty:  Critical Studies courses are taught by caring yet demanding educators who understand the actor’s focus and have tailored their courses specifically to address and engage the actor.  Performance Immersion courses are taught by professionals within the film, television and theatre industry.
