 AMDA Dance Programs

AMDA brings its history of professional excellence to two Dance Programs:

Two-Year Dance Conservatory Program

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre

These programs have been created to immerse the student in a curriculum that will prepare the dancer for a professional standard at the highest level. The requirements of classical ballet, modern dance and Broadway repertoire will be covered and the student will be challenged in coursework taught by instructors with broad range and experience. The training will be inclusive and rigorous.

The AMDA Dance Department was first headed by Hanya Holm. Her work in the history of twentieth century dance is legendary. Her choreography in the original production of My Fair Lady was an iconic creation of Broadway history.

The tradition of perfectionism she established has been maintained and in that spirit, AMDA, for the first time, will be auditioning a limited number of dancers to be admitted.  Scholarship opportunities will be available to applicants with outstandingly high potential.

Two-Year Dance Conservatory Program

This program allows the dancer to continue to train rigorously in dance techniques and performances.  An emphasis on classical technique will be augmented by focused study in a variety of dance styles and disciplines. The program will prepare the ambitious dancer with the basic training expected in the demanding art of dance while allowing for additional training in acting and voice.

Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre

AMDA’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Theatre immerses the student in a curriculum that provides the strongest foundation for a career in a multitude of professional dance performance opportunities.  Training is demanding and rigorous.  An emphasis on classical technique is complimented by focused studies in a variety of dance styles and disciplines.  Coursework expands training beyond dance to include acting, voice, improvisation, and other essential performance skills. Academic coursework is designed specifically for the performing artist, where every class relates to the life of a working dancer, actor, and/or singer.
