What:

Join us for a day of classes created specifically for our AMDA alumni. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your skills and network with fellow alumni. This round of classes will be taught by AMDA alumni Chandra Lee Schwartz, Chryssie Whitehead and Jordan McKirahan.

  • 9:30am: Check-in
  • 10:00am - 12:00pm: Session 1
  • 12:00pm - 1:00pm: Mixer and networking in the AMDA Café with alumnus Justin Key (entrepreneurial and motivational speaker)
  • 1:00pm - 3:00pm: Session 2

CLASSES:

1. Musical Theatre Audition Workshop with Chandra Lee Schwartz

Choose one session: 10:00am or 1:00pm

Broadway performer and alumna Chandra Lee Schwartz will teach a musical theatre workshop that will help you reconnect and find the joy in auditioning. You will explore what makes each performer special and find fun ways of weaving that into your audition material, working on essence, audition songs, acting a song, being in the room and type.

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment." — Ralph Waldo EmersonAbout Chandra: Before making her Broadway splash taking over the role of Glinda in Wicked, Schwartz made her Broadway debut as Agnes in Gypsy, starring Bernadette Peters, and went on to play the popular blonde witch on Wicked’s first national tour. Other credits include Penny Pingleton in Hairspray in Las Vegas and on tour, and histrionic drama queen Sharpay in the national tour of High School Musical.

What to bring: Please come audition ready (warmed up) with headshot and resume. Bring an audition cut of a song 32 bars or around 90 seconds of a song.

2. Dance Audition Workshop with Chryssie Whitehead

10am: Session 1, Dance Audition Workshop for Singers
or
1pm: Session 2, Dance Audition Workshop for Dancers

Accomplished Broadway, TV and film performer, alumna Chryssie Whitehead will tailor two distinct classes for those who wish to hone their dance audition techniques.Session 1 Dance Audition Workshop for Singers: You will warm up, learn a combination and conduct a mock audition for Company with a talkback at the end to discuss your audition and attire. Please come in dance clothes for your “movement call” and bring a change of clothes for your “singer call.” Note: You will not have to sing — the clothes are only for discussion purposes.Session 2 Dance Audition Workshop for Dancers: You will warm up, learn a combination and conduct a mock audition for Sweet Charity. Please come in dance clothes for your “dancer call” and bring an extra pair of clothes for your “singer call back.” Note: You will not have to sing — the clothes are only for discussion purposes.

About Chryssie: Chryssie is a graduate of AMDA NY and a faculty member at AMDA Los Angeles. She works in all arenas as a dancer, actor and singer having a career on broadway, television, film and commercials. She has performed on Broadway in A Chorus Line, co-starred opposite Neil Patrick Harris in the NY Philharmonic's Company, assisted on the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance," toured with multiple productions, and can be seen in numerous TV roles. Look for her singing and dancing in Lucky Stiff, a movie musical with Jason Alexander to be released later this year.

3. Commercial Acting Workshop with Jordan McKirahan

Choose one session: 10:00am or 1:00pm

Learn invaluable knowledge of the industry with agent and AMDA alumnus Jordan McKirahan. Jordan will teach a commercial workshop focusing on commercial audition techniques, single and partner commercial copy analysis and commercial play back. He will host a Q&A portion to go over agency meeting procedures, how to secure representation, along with audition etiquette and process. Come prepared with any questions you would like to ask Jordan.

About Jordan: Jordan was formerly the Director of Commercial and Print at the Trio Talent Agency. In 2009, he founded his own agency, JMTA, a SAG/AFTRA franchised full service commercial and print agency, representing both youth and adult talent. For the past six years, Jordan has made it a priority to return to AMDA as an industry guest instructor. Using his experience as a business owner and talent agent, he has introduced students to the insights of real-world commercial experience.

Alumni Mixer/Networking Facilitated by Justin Key

Open to All: 12pm – 1:00pm

We will host a special mixer in the AMDA Café with alumnus Justin Key. Justin is an entrepreneurial expert who is contracted to speak across the country. He will just talk a bit about his experiences and give you all some tips on how to maximize your profile and be your own business.

About Justin Key: Justin Key graduated magnum cum laude with a Bachelors degree in mathematics from Le Moyne-Owen college with offers from Harvard Graduate School, the FBI and Oakridge National Laboratory. He chose instead to attend AMDA and pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Justin can now be seen in the US, Europe and Africa representing Wal-Mart, Ross Stores, E-Harmony, Perfect Smiles and many others. He was recently featured on BET’s "8 Days A Week," a new hit web series about the lives of young moguls in the making. Theatre credits include: A Soldier's Play, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, The Tell Tale Hearts, Casting the Runes, Catch, Let the Church Roll On and many more. Justin founded 180 Degrees Tutoring, a private tutoring firm in Los Angeles, CA.


Very Important:

  • Space is limited. Please reserve only if you are positive that you will attend.
  • Please be sure to cancel if your schedule changes so that other alumni can attend.
  • The Musical Theatre and Commercial workshops will be open to all, however a limited number of students will be able to sing, perform on camera, etc. The number of students who actively participate will depend on time and the discretion of the instructor.
  • We hope that you will come meet your fellow alumni for a day at AMDA. The aim of our Workshop Day is to offer you a fun opportunity to hone your skills and network with fellow alumni. We have many NY transplants who would like to meet their fellow LA alumni and vice versa.
