Randy Johnson made his Broadway debut as a playwright and director with the Tony Award–nominated musical A Night With Janis Joplin at the Lyceum Theatre. He coproduced and associate directed the West Coast premiere of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart, starring Richard Dreyfus and Kathy Bates. Randy is the original producer of Always, Patsy Cline, including the Off-Broadway production starring Margo Martindale. Other regional theatre directing and writing credits include: Jukebox Hero — The Foreigner Musical; Smokey Joe's Cafe at Arena Stage; Summer in the City; and Rumors and Dreams — The Fleetwood Mac Musical. Other productions include: Shout Sister Shout — The Rosetta Tharpe Story at Pasadena Playhouse and Seattle Rep. He has been recognized twice by the NAACP Theater Division for excellence in theatre, received an Ovation Award and two Bay Area Theatre Critic Awards, was named best director by DC Theatre Scene, and was nominated for best director by BroadwayWorld Awards.
