Audition Experience

All High School Conservatory students will have the opportunity to experience a simulated performing arts college audition at the end of their program, including a possible acceptance to the AMDA College of the Performing Arts and/or receive a scholarship for an alternate High School Conservatory Program!

Audition preparation and techniques are integrated into our curriculum, so students prepare with AMDA faculty and staff to refine their audition skills. Students will also be guided through the following audition steps within the program by the Admissions Team. Please review the information below to prepare for this audition experience, and remember that your instructors will work with you throughout the program to help refine your audition pieces. The goal is for all students to have an amazing experience with their audition, to build confidence and refine skills.

  • Rising Freshman and Sophomores +

    • The audition for rising freshman and sophomores is used to gain audition experience as well as potential merit-based scholarships for attending future High School Conservatory programs. Below are the requirements for the audition:
      • Registration Form +

        • This form will be provided during the High School program at the Admissions information session.
      • Audition +

        • The faculty will assist in preparations for the audition.
          • On Campus: Students will audition live for AMDA College adjudicators.
          • Online: Students will send in a self-tape submission for their AMDA audition.
          • Audition Requirements (all programs):
            • Acting: +

              • Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue
              • Audition preparation faculty will help you select and prepare your audition material.
              • The use of props during your audition is not permitted.
            • Musical Theatre & Pop Star: +

              • Prepare a 1-2 minute section (32-64 bars) of a song from the musical theatre, pop or classical repertoire.
              • Audition preparation faculty will help you select and prepare your audition material.
              • Please bring sheet music in your key to your audition in a binder. Your sheet music should be double sided.
              • AMDA will provide a professional accompanist for you.
            • Dance: +

              • Prepare one dance solo (Approx. 60 seconds in length).
              • Styles may include: Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Tap, Ballroom, Hip-hop, Theatre Dance, World Dance, or Contemporary.
              • Audition preparation faculty will help you select and prepare your audition material.
              • In addition to the audition requirements, applicants may be led through additional movement phrases provided by the AMDA coach facilitating the audition.
  • Rising Juniors and Seniors +

    • The audition experience for rising juniors and seniors is used for possible admission and merit-based scholarships for AMDA’s college programs as well as possible merit-based scholarships for future High School Conservatory programs. To expedite the college acceptance process, High School Conservatory students will have the opportunity to complete the following admission requirements:
      • Application Form +

        • This form will be provided during the High School program at the Admissions information session.
      • Personal Essay +

        • This form will be provided during the High School program at the Admissions information session, but students are encouraged to submit early using the form below. Essay Form
      • Audition +

        • The instructors will assist in preparations for the audition.
          • On Campus: Students will audition live for AMDA College adjudicators.
          • Online: Students will send in a self-tape submission for their AMDA audition.
          • Audition Requirements:
            • Acting: +

              • Prepare two 1-2 minute contrasting monologues
              • The audition performances should not exceed 4 minutes in total.
              • Audition preparation faculty will help you select and prepare your audition material.
              • The use of props during your audition is not permitted. A chair will be provided.
            • Musical Theatre & Pop Star: +

              • Prepare a 1-2 minute section (32-64 bars) of a song from the musical theatre, pop or classical repertoire.
              • Prepare a 1-2 minute monologue (contemporary or classical).
              • The audition performance should not exceed 4 minutes in total.
              • Audition preparation faculty will help you select and prepare your audition material.
