AMDA Thanks Alumna Kenita R. Miller for Speaking at AMDA NY's Summer 2017 Graduation Ceremony

AMDA would like to think Kenita R. Miller for speaking at AMDA NY's Summer 2017 graduation ceremony.

Kenita R. Miller, a proud graduate of AMDA, made her Broadway debut as Celie, the central character in the musical THE COLOR PURPLE. Kenita’s star turn in the Tony-nominated original production was immediately followed by her second Broadway role, the roller-skating muse Erato in Xanadu.

 

Kenita has performed in multiple Off-Broadway productions, including: LANGSTON IN HARLEM, for which she earned an Audelco Award and a Drama Desk nomination for her portrayal of Zora Neale Hurston; WORKING, which won a Drama Desk Award for outstanding ensemble; BUBBLY BLACK GIRL SHEDS HER CHAMELEON SKIN (Granny); Bella: AN AMERICAN TALL TALE (Miss Cabbagestalk, Mama); MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG; WILD PARTY; and AVENUE Q.

 

Some of Kenita’s memorable regional credits include: the dual roles of Minnie McKnight and Angela in PARADE, for which she won a Barrymore Award; and Sarah in RAGTIME. 

 

Kenita has appeared in many popular TV shows, including the multiple Emmy-winning “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix, “Hostages,” “Blacklist,” “Shades of Blue,” “Odd Mom Out”, and the perennial children’s classic, “Sesame Street.” 

 

This fall, Kenita will return to Broadway to star as Mama Euralie in the upcoming revival of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND
