April 26, 2018 - Announcements

Want to learn a new dialect or practice a new accent? The library has plenty of resources. Paul Meier’s book on Accents & Dialects for Stage and Screen is accompanied by 12 CDs illustrating 24 accents ranging from Cockney to Yiddish. Accent and dialect coach Gillian Lane-Plescia has published 20 CDs, each accompanied by a booklet, with examples for accents from New England, New York City, Chicago, Russia, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, France, Italy, and more. Both the Meier and Lane-Plescia materials are on reserve at the library desk.

You can also read Accents: A Manual for Actors by Robert Blumenfeld, The Dialect Handbook: Learning, Researching and Performing a Dialect Role by Ginny Kopf, and How to Do Accents by Edda Sharpe and Jan Haydn Rowles. If you are looking for scenes or monologues, try Scenes in Dialect for Young Actors, Monologues in Dialect for Young Actors, and Great Monologues in Dialect for Young Actors.
